The official event shirt for the sixth (and first online) iteration of The Annual Florida Winter Keiko, hosted by Sunday Morning Keiko!

About The Design:

As this year's event was online-only due to the pandemic, the design is our attempt to reflect this change, as well as reflect upon the meaning of this moment. The tangible aspects of what connects us being removed is not true disconnection, but rather an opportunity to reflect on the abstract meaning and values that brought us together one way, and will continue to do so another way.

On the back is Ueshiba Sensei's prescient quote reminding us that "One does not need buildings, money, power, or status to practice the Art of Peace [-] Heaven is right where you are standing, and that is the place to train." It accompanies a bespoke sumi circle, or Ensō, digitizing something that will be familiar to those who train regularly in a Shotokan dojo. Likewise, on the front lapel, the character(s) of our traditional location for this event in Florida has been digitized via binary. It is flanked by the image of a Sawgrass in bloom. Common throughout Florida both as weed and in deliberate landscaping, these hardy plants seem appropriate symbols of this moment's invitation to consider the many juxtapositions found in disruption to our rituals and routines.
